Turkish Cult Leader Adnan Oktar Sentenced to 8,658 Years for Espionage, Sexual Abuse, and Other Crimes.

Turkish Cult Leader Adnan Oktar and his organization receive 8,658-year sentences for multiple crimes, including espionage and child abuse.

Adnan Oktar and his organization were tried for numerous serious crimes. The Istanbul 30th High Criminal Court convicted Oktar and members of his organization of various offenses on November 16, 2022.

Oktar was found guilty of several charges, including “establishing and managing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime,” “political or military espionage,” “aiding FETÖ,” “aggravated sexual abuse of a child,” “deprivation of liberty,” and “torture.” For these crimes, he received a total sentence of 8,658 years in prison.

The 1st Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Appeals upheld the decision of the Istanbul 30th High Criminal Court, deeming it lawful. As a result, the sentences handed down to Adnan Oktar and the members of his organization became final.

Other Defendants

Several other key members of Oktar’s organization were also sentenced to a total of 8,658 years in prison for similar crimes. These individuals include Alev Babuna, Aylin Atmaca, Aysegül Hüma Babuna, Bora Yildiz, Ulviye Didem Ürer, Yeliz Sucu, Merve Büyükbayrak, Sinem Hacer Tezyapar, Tarkan Yavas, Halil Hilmi Müftüoglu, Ibrahim Tuncer, Mehmet Noyan Orcan, and Fatma Ceyda Ertüzün.

Additionally, 106 defendants were sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for “membership of an organization.” Eight defendants received 3-year sentences for “aiding an organization without being a member.” Sixteen defendants, who were subject to effective repentance provisions, were given various prison sentences. Another 67 defendants were sentenced to different terms of imprisonment for similar crimes.

One defendant, Mert Sucu, received a sentence of 152 years and 5 months in prison for crimes including “membership of an organization,” “sexual abuse,” “sexual assault,” “resisting to prevent the performance of one’s duty,” and “attempting to murder two police officers.”

Adnan Oktar will remain in prison for a total of 8,658 years.
