Suspect Without Resident Permit Caught with 1.1 kg of Drugs

AHS, the suspect apprehended with 1.1 kilograms of drugs during an operation by the Lefkoşa Narcotics Team, reappeared in court.
During the proceedings, the police provided details of the investigation, stating that they received information on July 9 regarding the suspect, a resident of Göçmenköy area, possessing illegal substances. Acting on this tip, authorities conducted a search of the suspect’s residence around 12:30 PM on the same day, executing a court order.
During the search, officers discovered 1,100 grams of cannabis concealed within 42 separate packages located inside the bed base. The suspect was subsequently arrested, and an investigation was initiated. In his statement, he confessed to acquiring the drugs from a wanted individual, intending to deliver them to another person.
Illegal Residency for Over Two Years
During an immigration check, police confirmed that the suspect entered the country on February 25, 2022, with a 60-day visa. He has been living illegally since April 26, 2022, until his arrest on July 9, 2024.
Police noted that the suspect’s crime falls under the jurisdiction of the high criminal court and emphasized that he has no legal ties within the country. Consequently, they requested his detention pending trial.
The judge subsequently ordered the suspect to be remanded in custody for a period not exceeding three months.
