Lefkoşa State Hospital Increases ICU Capacity with New Unit Opening
Minister of Health Hakan Dinçyürek announced the opening of the fourth intensive care unit at Lefkoşa Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital, effectively increasing the hospital’s intensive care bed capacity to 25.
Dinçyürek stated that when the pediatric and newborn intensive care units at the Emergency Hospital are considered, Nalbantoğlu State Hospital now boasts a total intensive care bed capacity of 50. The aim is to increase this number to 60 within the next month, providing a significant solution to the country’s intensive care bed shortage.
According to the ministry’s statement, Minister Dinçyürek reviewed and evaluated both the newly opened intensive care unit at Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital and the newly purchased ambulances for the 112 Emergency Service.
Minister Dinçyürek laud the importance of the hospital’s capacity expansion and the strengthening of health services. He also mentioned that renovations of the existing general intensive care unit will be completed shortly, which will increase the intensive care bed capacity in the main building to 35 upon its reopening.
In addition, Dinçyürek announced that 5 new ambulances, financed by the Health Fund from the Ministry’s resources, have been delivered to the 112 Emergency Service. He noted that when he assumed office, there were 24 ambulances, and with the recent additions, the number of newly purchased ambulances has increased to 7. Three more ambulances are planned to be put into service next week, and the tender process for acquiring 5 additional ambulances is nearing completion.
Minister Dinçyürek expressed gratitude to all teams involved and emphasized that they are planning for the future by anticipating the country’s health needs.
Dr. Çağın Ozankaya, Deputy Chief Physician at Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital, provided details about the hospital’s intensive care unit. He stated that the renovations, including the flooring, have been completed and that the fourth intensive care unit was opened following Minister Dinçyürek’s directives.
Ozankaya noted that the new unit has a bed capacity of 9, bringing the total bed capacity, including pediatric intensive care units, to 50.
