Lefkoşa Drug Bust: Suspects Detained Seven More Days
Lefkoşa suspects, caught with drugs, face extended detention. Court grants police 7 more days for thorough investigation.
CC and Kl, who were arrested with half a kilogram of drugs during an operation in Lefkoşa, appeared before the Lefkoşa District Court once again today.
Providing details to the court, the police recounted that on July 23, at approximately 11:00 AM, the suspects were identified in the Hamitköy area. Upon noticing the police, the suspects fled in their vehicle, subsequently abandoning it in front of an apartment building and continuing their escape on foot. During a search of the vehicle, 500 grams of drugs were discovered.
Further investigation led police to the apartment where the suspects had been staying. A search of the apartment revealed the ignition key of the vehicle hidden inside an air conditioner and the clothing worn by the suspects during the incident was found in the bathroom. In their statements, the suspects admitted to contacting each other by phone and acquiring the drugs together.
The police informed the court that the seized drugs had been sent for analysis, though the results were still pending. Three individuals had been questioned so far, with plans to take statements from three more. Additionally, the mobile phone used in the coordination of the drug supply would be examined, and the plastic bags used to wrap the drugs would be sent to the fingerprint examination branch.
The police officer also noted that two individuals were wanted in connection with the drug supply and that the investigation was ongoing. An additional seven days were requested to continue the investigation.
The court granted the request, ordering the suspects to be detained for an additional seven days.
