The Israeli army announced that it conducted strikes on multiple locations in southern Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah’s missile launchers and a Hezbollah cell in Khiam. The strikes were described as a “preemptive strike” against Hezbollah.

In response, Hezbollah launched a “retaliatory attack” following the assassination of its senior commander Fuad Shukur in Beirut on July 30.

Three people were killed, and two were injured, in the Israeli airstrikes. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that one person died when an Israeli drone targeted a vehicle, and two others were killed in separate airstrikes.

Reports indicate that Hezbollah intended to target the Mossad headquarters near Herzliya, but this attempt was thwarted by Israel’s preemptive action. Israeli officials, including Foreign Minister Israel Katz and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, emphasized that while they do not seek an all-out war, they will take necessary measures to protect Israel.

Hamas congratulated Hezbollah for its attack on Israel, condemning Israel’s escalation of tensions in Lebanon.

The United Nations called for all parties to avoid actions that could further escalate tensions, stressing the importance of adhering to the ceasefire under UN Security Council Resolution 1701. This resolution requires Israel to withdraw behind the Blue Line, with the area between the Blue Line and the Litani River in Lebanon remaining demilitarized under Lebanese army and UNIFIL control.
