Hür-is Federation Calls for New Minimum Wage, Criticizes Government Inaction
Ahmet Serdaroglu, President of the Hür-is Federation, announced that they have urged the Ministry of Labor and Social Security to convene the Minimum Wage Determination Commission to set the new minimum wage effective from September 1.
In a written statement, Serdaroglu criticized the government’s inaction following the last minimum wage determination, stating, “No measures have been taken to alleviate market pressures and address the cost of living and inflation. The current approach merely focuses on increasing salaries without fulfilling broader responsibilities. A nation cannot be governed effectively by only providing benefits to supporters.”
He stressed the importance of a social state providing free healthcare and education to its citizens, adding, “The government has failed in this regard. If they believe they can create a success story by making us lose and then find again, they are mistaken.”
Serdaroglu called for the immediate convening of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission to improve the welfare of all wage earners, particularly those earning the minimum wage, and to reduce the heavy taxes on their salaries. He reiterated the call for the Ministry of Labor to set the new minimum wage, effective September 1, based on the legal authority and the unanimous decision of the Hür-is Federation Board of Directors.
The second minimum wage of the year, effective May 1, 2024, was announced as 33,926 TL gross and 29,516 TL net.
