Gun Found in Gönyeli Vehicle: Suspect Arrested
Gönyeli gun find leads to suspect’s arrest; Lefkoşa Court orders 3-day detention for ongoing investigation, with two more individuals sought.
AA, whose vehicle was searched in Gönyeli and found to contain a gun and bullets, was arrested and brought before the Lefkoşa District Court today.
According to information presented to the court by the police, the incident occurred last night at approximately 23:45. Police teams, acting on suspicion, searched a vehicle parked in a dirt lot in Gönyeli and discovered a 9 mm gun and six live bullets under the driver’s seat.
The police stated that the suspect was immediately arrested, and an investigation was initiated. A subsequent search of the suspect’s residence on the same evening revealed no illegal items. The suspect’s mobile phone was confiscated as evidence.
In his verbal statement, the suspect claimed that while the vehicle belonged to him, he was unaware of the presence of the gun and bullets under the seat.
The police informed the court that the seized weapon would be sent to the ballistics and fingerprint examination department for further analysis. Additionally, two individuals connected to the incident have been identified and are currently being sought.
The police requested that the suspect be detained for three days, arguing that his release could potentially influence the individuals still at large. The court granted the request, ordering the suspect to be detained for three days to facilitate the ongoing investigation.
