Greek Cyprus Target TRNC Property Developers for Alleged Land Grabs
Greek Cypriot properties in the TRNC have become a focal point of discussion in the South.
Construction companies and their owners are being named for allegedly “robbing Greek Cypriot property,” with calls for legal action against them.
A list compiled by the “Environmental Movement” and published by Politis features the names of 24 construction companies and their owners.
Notable figures include Afik Group founder Simon Mistrel, an Israeli citizen, and Turkish Cypriot lawyer Akan Kürsat, who have been involved in official proceedings concerning Greek Cypriot properties.
Mistrel is currently in Southern Cyprus and has been released on bail. Kürsat, who was arrested in Italy, was extradited to Southern Cyprus, stood trial, and was acquitted of the charges. He has since returned to the TRNC.
The Greek Cypriot administration has yet to respond to the calls for action. However, it appears likely that, in addition to the construction company officials named, individuals who have purchased houses and land from these companies may also be subject to a potential investigation.
There is concern that individuals crossing into the South may face the risk of arrest as a result of such investigations.
