Erdoğan Condemns Injustice Against Turkish Cypriots
Erdoğan reaffirms Türkiye’s firm stance against federalism for Turkish Cypriots, emphasizing historical injustices and discrimination.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has reiterated that the Turkish Cypriot people have been subjected to injustice and discrimination since the 1960s, expressing a firm stance against proposals based on federalism. Speaking at his party’s group meeting, Erdoğan emphasized, “The Turkish Cypriot people have faced injustice, unlawfulness, and discrimination for almost three-quarters of a century.”
Erdoğan also highlighted Türkiye’s vigilance regarding developments in Western Thrace, stating, “We are closely monitoring Greece’s actions in Western Thrace and will intervene when necessary. We will continue to protect the Turkish Minority in Western Thrace, as well as safeguard the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people.”
Reaffirming Türkiye’s position, Erdoğan said, “Both we and the Turkish Cypriots reject proposals based on federalism. Our goal is to increase the international recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). As the motherland and guarantor country, we have clearly stated our position on the anniversary of the Peace Operation.”
CHP President Özel’s Participation in Cyprus Ceremonies
Erdoğan also commented on the presence of CHP President Özgür Özel at the ceremonies held in Lefkoşa on July 20, expressing hope that the unity displayed would extend to national issues, particularly in the fight against terrorism. “We do not seek tension in our relations with our neighbors. Our aim is to advance our friendships with all countries and increase the number of our allies. We will not leave any extended hand for a handshake unanswered,” Erdoğan added.
