€44M Spent on Ukrainian Refugees in the South
Greek Cypriot Administration Spends Over 44 Million Euros to Support Ukrainian Refugees Amid Russia-Ukraine Conflict
The Greek Cypriot Administration has spent more than 44 million euros to support Ukrainian citizens who sought refuge in Southern Cyprus following the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022.
According to a report by Fileleftheros newspaper, a total of 44,156,528 euros was expended over the 2022-2023 period to accommodate Ukrainian refugees. A significant portion of this expenditure was directed towards hotel accommodations, facilitated by the Greek Cypriot Ministry of Tourism.
The report also highlighted that the European Union contributed 6.7 million euros towards these efforts over the two-year period. This financial aid from the EU helped alleviate some of the costs incurred by the Greek Cypriot Administration in their efforts to host and support the displaced Ukrainian citizens.
