CTP Leader Erhürman Condemns Christodoulides’ Contradictory Actions Against TRNC
Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Chairman Tufan Erhürman criticized Greek Cypriot Administration President Nikos Christodoulides for his contradictory approach to negotiations and economic actions against the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Erhürman pointed out that while Christodoulides claims to be ready to negotiate based on UN Security Council resolutions, he simultaneously seeks ways to undermine the TRNC economy using all available means.
In his statement, Erhürman remarked, “After targeting the construction sector using property issues and legal instruments, and taking initiatives with European authorities concerning universities in the TRNC, the focus has now shifted to the tourism sector.”
He highlighted the recent attempt to prevent tourists staying in Southern Cyprus from crossing into Northern Cyprus through TUI, one of Europe’s largest tourism operators. Erhürman continued:
“As we have consistently stated, those who not only distance the Turkish Cypriot people from the right path but also reject all forms of diplomacy and dialogue continue to enable Mr. Christodoulides, whose reliability and sincerity are increasingly questioned, to use any instrument recklessly.
We will not accept the marginalization of the Turkish Cypriot people, who have consistently demonstrated their commitment to a solution, from diplomacy, dialogue, and the global community. Nor will we accept the perpetuation of the narrative that portrays the side seeking a solution as unreliable, an image that emerges with every insincere action by Mr. Christodoulides.
We call on the UN, EU, and international community to recognize these damaging initiatives and not ignore the efforts that harm relations and the trust between the two sides.”
