Sports Writers Association KTSYD Celebrates 41st Anniversary with Award Ceremony; Buse Savaskan Wins Sportsperson of the Year 2024.

The Cyprus Turkish Sports Writers Association (KTSYD) held its annual Achievers of the Year Award Ceremony on Tuesday evening, July 16, 2024, at the Fikret Ünlü Pool in Lefkoşa, marking its 41st anniversary.

In his speech, KTSYD President Necati Özsoy stressed the challenges in selecting the award winners and emphasized the importance of supporting successful athletes both financially and morally. Özsoy called for increased support for athletes to help them continue their achievements.

Political leaders, including President Ersin Tatar, Parliament Speaker Zorlu Töre, and Main Opposition Party CTP Chairman Tufan Erhürman, attended the ceremony and congratulated the recipients, noting the positive impact on the athletes’ motivation.

Award Recipients:

Champion Angels Special Award:

  • Sht. Hüseyin Ruso Middle School Gymnastics Team
  • Sht. Turgut Secondary School Athletics Team
  • Hala Sultan Theology College Handball Team

Ahmed Sami Topcan Outstanding Service Award:

  • Harika Kiral, for significant contributions as an athlete, coach, and manager over many years.

KTSYD Omaç Basat Press Incentive Award:

  • Necmi Usal (Presented by National Olympic Committee President Dursun Koç)

Mete Adanır Athlete of the Year Award:

  • Buse Savaşkan, who qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games after successes in the Turkish and Balkan Championships.

Yusuf Kaptan Coach of the Year Award:

  • Nazim Aktunç, for leading Göçmenköy to victory in the Cyprus Cup.

Sulhi Garan Referee of the Year Award:

  • Utku Hamamcıoğlu, who officiated 33 matches in the Super League, First League, and Cyprus Cup during the 2023-24 season.

Zeka Öztekni̇k Special Awards:

  • Kemal Elektrikçi, for his achievements in marathon and ultramarathon, including breaking the TRNC track record and earning a spot in the Spartathlon.
  • Erdaş Uçaner, for his contributions as a swimming coach and motorsports coach, and his return to motorsports.
  • Berkem Korbay, who is preparing to return to the football field after recovering from cancer.
