Interior Minister Dursun Oğuz appeared on the program “Morning News,” hosted by Canan Onurer on Kıbrıs Postası TV, where he discussed the process surrounding the immigration amnesty and praised Prime Minister Ünal Üstel’s resolute stance.

Oğuz noted that after the immigration amnesty came into effect, some individuals did not benefit from it, leading to grievances. He mentioned that discussions with Prime Minister Ünal Üstel took place to address these issues, resulting in an accelerated effort to resolve them.

Referring to the case of Abubakar Uthman, who had been living in the country without a residence permit for 16 years and was arrested over the weekend, Oğuz stated that the government was sensitive to such matters and had already been working on solutions. The Abubakar case, he noted, expedited the process. He emphasized that changes have been made to allow children under state protection and those who lost relatives in the earthquake to benefit from the amnesty.

Oğuz explained that because the amnesty’s original provisions did not adequately address certain grievances, adjustments were made. A regulation granting equal rights to everyone was implemented, and he highlighted Prime Minister Ünal Üstel’s determination in issuing the decrees.

He stated that the work was completed through a decree with the force of law, alleviating the issues faced by many people. Oğuz emphasized that this regulation is not tailored to individuals but is a broad measure aimed at the general public, focusing on conditions related to employment and family unity.

Oğuz stressed that no malicious intent should be inferred from the changes made to the Immigration Law, saying, “This is not a change made for individuals. It is a measure designed to address the needs of all people.”
