President Ersin Tatar has accused Southern Cyprus of recent attempts to undermine property, tourism, and universities in Northern Cyprus. He stated, “They are supposedly going to intimidate us, make us kneel, and sit at the table in a begging position. Begging is not in our book.”

During an appearance on NTV, President Tatar asserted the importance of recognizing Northern Cyprus’s sovereignty if negotiations are to occur, emphasizing that sovereignty is not open for negotiation. He criticized some opposition groups for suggesting that discussions should take place, noting that these issues have been thoroughly evaluated.

Tatar discussed the ongoing embargoes on direct flights, direct trade, and sports against Northern Cyprus, stating, “If you remove these, then a process may begin. Instead of removing these, the Greek side has recently launched attacks on property, tourism, and our universities.”

He reiterated, “There is no begging in our book. There is no begging in the politics I represent!”

Furthermore, President Tatar noted that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has gained increased significance due to recent initiatives by Türkiye. He added, “Türkiye now also advocates for a two-state status in Cyprus.”
