Ertuğruloğlu Slams US Congress Over Netanyahu Ovation
Netanyahu’s speech to US Congress met with a standing ovation, sparking backlash from TRNC Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu over child deaths.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to the US Congress was met with a standing ovation, drawing significant backlash and criticism.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu reacted strongly to the lengthy ovation given to Netanyahu, who has been criticized for his role in the deaths of thousands of children. Ertuğruloğlu stated, “This is not civilization, this is something else.”
According to a written statement from the Ministry, Minister Ertuğruloğlu hosted Seving Oruçeva, President of the Azerbaijan Victory Martyrs’ Families Association, along with the children of Karabakh martyrs aged 17-22, who were visiting the TRNC as part of a summer school event organized by Girne American University (GAU).
During his speech, Ertuğruloğlu criticized the US Congress for applauding Netanyahu, saying, “Who is Netanyahu? A prime minister responsible for the deaths of innocent people, including children. If you invite such a man to Washington, have him speak in Congress, and the entire Congress applauds him for minutes, there is something wrong here. This cannot be right. Nearly 20,000 children have died or are dying every day. Hosting a man responsible for this in Washington, having him speak in Congress, and applauding him is not civilization, this is something else.”
Ertuğruloğlu also commented on the broader issue of global governance, specifically criticizing the five permanent members of the UN Security Council. He echoed the sentiments of President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, stating, “The world is truly bigger than five. As the world gradually understands this, the influence of these five countries (USA, UK, Russia, France, China) is eroding.
We will continue to defend our rightful causes, whether it is Azerbaijan, Türkiye, or the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, no matter the cost. We will protect and support each other. We have no ambitions on anyone else’s land, but we will not allow anyone to target ours.”
