Southern Cyprus Council of Ministers caps non-EU student numbers at 21 private universities, effective the next academic year, to address refugee issues.

The Council of Ministers has imposed restrictions on the number of students from non-EU countries attending 21 private universities in Southern Cyprus, according to reports.

Fileleftheros newspaper stated that Deputy Government Spokesperson Yannis Antoniu announced that the Ministry of Education had presented this proposal to the Council of Ministers, which subsequently approved it.

The new regulation will come into effect starting from the upcoming academic year.

The decision was taken as part of broader efforts to address the refugee issue.
