Erdoğan reaffirms Türkiye’s firm stance against federalism for Turkish Cypriots, emphasizing historical injustices and discrimination.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has reiterated that the Turkish Cypriot people have been subjected to injustice and discrimination since the 1960s, expressing a firm stance against proposals based on federalism. Speaking at his party’s group meeting, Erdoğan emphasized, “The Turkish Cypriot people have faced injustice, unlawfulness, and discrimination for almost three-quarters of a century.”

Erdoğan also highlighted Türkiye’s vigilance regarding developments in Western Thrace, stating, “We are closely monitoring Greece’s actions in Western Thrace and will intervene when necessary. We will continue to protect the Turkish Minority in Western Thrace, as well as safeguard the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people.”

Reaffirming Türkiye’s position, Erdoğan said, “Both we and the Turkish Cypriots reject proposals based on federalism. Our goal is to increase the international recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). As the motherland and guarantor country, we have clearly stated our position on the anniversary of the Peace Operation.”
