Private universities in Türkiye are increasing tuition fees by up to 150%, causing financial strain for upcoming students.

Private universities in Türkiye are announcing massive tuition fee increases for the upcoming academic year. Tuition fees have surged by up to 150 percent, prompting concerns among millions of students preparing for their university preferences between July 25 and August 2, 2024.

Koç University has set its tuition fee for the 2024-2025 academic year at 1,075,000 TL, excluding the Faculty of Medicine and including VAT. This marks a 103 percent increase from the previous year’s fee of 530,000 TL. For students opting to pay in two installments, the spring semester payment will be 618,500 TL, raising the total annual fee to 1,156,000 TL.

Sabancı University has also announced a substantial fee increase. The tuition fee for all new undergraduate programs and preparatory language education is set at 1,100,000 TL, up 115 percent from last year’s 510,000 TL. If students choose to pay in two installments, the spring semester fee will be 660,000 TL, bringing the total annual fee to 1,210,000 TL.

Bilkent University has determined its 2024-2025 tuition fee for all departments and programs at 620,000 TL, doubling last year’s fee of 310,000 TL. The university offers an option to pay in two installments, with the spring semester fee adjusted for the six-month inflation rate between June and November.

Ozyegin University sets its fees based on faculty. The tuition for the Faculties of Business Administration, Architecture and Design, Engineering, Law, Social Sciences, and Aviation and Astronautics is 950,000 TL, up from 475,000 TL last year.

Istanbul Bilgi University also determines fees by faculty. The most expensive programs, such as the Faculties of Engineering, Natural Sciences, and Social and Human Sciences, including the Department of Psychology, are set at 745,000 TL, up from 297,500 TL last year. The preparatory department fee is set at 697,500 TL.
