Economist Mehmet Saydam discusses bribery, corruption, and deepening economic challenges on live TV, signaling the end of single-income households.

Economist Mehmet Saydam has expressed concerns that bribery and corruption remain rampant due to the mutual satisfaction of both parties involved and a lack of transparency within the system.

In an interview on the Sabah Postası program on Kıbrıs Postası TV, hosted by Gökhan Altıner, Saydam discussed the significant challenges facing the economy. He noted a departure from agriculture and production, coupled with a rising population, exacerbating the situation.

THE ERA OF SINGLE-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS IS OVER

Saydam emphasized, “How will you feed these people? Foreign exchange rates have also increased.” He pointed out that prices in Southern Cyprus are either comparable or more advantageous, causing a shift in economic activity towards the South.

He further highlighted the reckless rise in prices and the increasing necessity for dual-income households. Saydam underscored that the economic crisis continues to deepen, making it increasingly difficult for families to sustain themselves on a single income.
